Birdwatching in Geopark Naturtejo

If you appreciate the full contact with nature, in particular the bird watching associated to a region with a millenary culture and historical heritage richness, you can not to loose the Geopark Naturtejo territory.

Meet in this unique region the possibility to watch an enormous diversity of characteristic birds that these Mediterranean regions offer, some of them are the rarer and emblematic species from Iberia, while you are transported throughout a historical and rich landscape, memories and genuine tastes and also a significant natural and cultural heritage.

The Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Spanish Imperial Eagle (Aquila adalberti), Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysactos), Bonelli’s Eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus), Griffen’s Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron perccnopterus), Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius) and Black Wheatear (Oenanthe leucura) can be watched in guided tours, walking or by boat trips, above castles, ancient villages and in deep and quiet
valleys.

The rare Pin-tailed Sandgrouse (Pterocles alchata), Black-bellied Sandgrouse (Pterocles orientalis), Great Bustard (Otis tarda), Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), Stone Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus), Common Crane (Grus grus), Roller (Coracias garulus), Short-toed Lark (Calandrella brachydactyla) and Calandra Lark (Melanocorypha calandra) can be appreciated at the cereal steppe areas, at the grassland and next territories of the region. At the mats and corks forest, the visitor can watch an enormous diversity of typical species of Mediterranean region, as Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus) and Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus), Bee-Eater (Merops apiaster), Hoopoe (Upupa epops), Azure-Winged Magpie (Cyanopica cyanus), Orphean Warbler (Sylvia hortensis), Spectacled Warbler (conspicillata), Subalpine Warbler (cantillans) and Dartford Warbler (undata), Spanish Sparrow (Passer hispaniolensis) and Rock Sparrow (Petronia petronia), Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes), and much more.
